The hair, eyes, and make up is perfect. It has that old-timey feel. But her body doesn't fit the era. She is WAY to skinny. Keep the make-up artist and either pack on some layers to the girl, or get a different model. She's gorgeous but for a pin-up look it would need to be more realistic, and most women had larger breasts and hips back then.

Erm.... if you look at the original pin-up paintings, they were NOWHERE NEAR real proportions.
Legs and Torsos were stretched to insane lengths.
Waists were tiny.
And arms bent in ways that are not possible without dislocation.

In short, pin-up aesthetics evolve to idealize the form popular at the moment.

Yes they had slim waists, but the women usually had larger hips and visible breasts.  This lady is pretty but they need a model with a bit of a larger frame. Add a corset and a little photoshop magic; and than it will achieve the 'pin-up' look.

"Add a corset and a little photoshop magic" on a big boobed gal ..... and we'll end up with YOUR idea of what a pin up should look like?

I swear to god I'm about to punch a wall.   I am not an 'ugly true self' But you and 5 other people keep saying "wow you're an insensitive prick how dare you say she's beautiful and not fit for the part!"

I FUCKING SAID SHE'S A GORGEOUS WOMAN. I was giving a god damn fucking critique on how to make the bloody picture better and trying to fucking help the artist improve. Why are you all acting like you have a buttplug shoved up your ass and you can't get it out.
Not you in particular said that but read the other comments, these people are imbeciles.  I AM JUST TRYING TO FUCKING HELP OUT THE GOD DAMN ARTIST.
C-R-I-T-I-Q-U-E!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! "a criticism or critical comment on some problem, subject, etc." Holy shit I am fed up with this. Not YOU in general but people keep noting me raging at me holy shit.

I would agree with your comments that there was a lot of photoshopping here. In fact if you look at the whole series of her and in particular the shot where she has her hand on her hip you can see how distored the fingers are.

However I do believe this was great DD candidate because the image is striking. It stands out amongst the other submitted stuff. Mainly I think due to the choice of colours.

I actually do belong to the era where pin-ups were en vogue but to check my own memory I googled pin up and found that most images did show women with particulary unrealistic slim waistlines.

Important too is the choice of hairstyle - perfect - and the accessories used in the series which are all very authentic.

Of course it is a beautiful picture, and a good DD. And yes they had slim waists, but the women usually had larger hips and visible breasts.  This lady is pretty but they need a model with a bit of a larger frame. Add a corset and a little photoshop magic; and than it will achieve the 'pin-up' look.

That's very rude of you, if she were bigger and someone told her to lose weight, they would get flamed. Be more respectful of her body. People of ANY era were different shapes and sizes. Not everyone was chubby, so stop acting like you know everything about an era you didn't even exist in. Have you even seen Lucy? She is skinny as hell.

-facepalm- You're a moron. It's art. There are no feelings in it; if I was doing a photoshoot and for the PHOTO to look realistic and I being the model, If someone gave me a critique and it seemed accurate about how the body does not work well to fit, would rather not be in my art and find someone slimmer or more built. I wouldn't be OFFENDED. Also: "She's gorgeous but for a pin-up look it would need to be more realistic"
I didn't say "omfg she's a skinny whore get her out and bring in some chubbeh love" NO. I did not say "omg ur fat lose some weight GOSH" I said GET A DIFFERENT MODEL. She's pretty but not right!
I was saying my input on how they can improve their photography. If you can't handle the heat stay out of the kitchen. I do art, and I know a lot of it has errors and needs to be fixed. But I am learning and every mistake I fix I get better. I'm just helping another artist learn how to make a better picture.
"so stop acting like you know everything about an era you didn't even exist in" That's possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Are you implying you existed than either? No. Not every person looks the same, but for a god damn pin up look she need some hips and a nice 'ol rack of titties. She's a lovely lady but the culture of the era shows lots of more prominent but thin women.

Why isn't she allowed to dress from that era? Is there some sort of rules against it? It's like cosplay. ANY woman of ANY size can be a pinup model, there were plenty of thin small breasted pin ups. How dare you try to say this woman can't do it simply because you want her to pack on some weight. Be more respectful.

Resorting to name calling? That's rather shameful of you. "If you can't handle the heat stay out of the kitchen." I should be saying to you since you obviously got overly upset over my opinion. ;D

Pin-up is a STYLE not a whole freaking body. The fashion is what marks it a pin up, not being fat or skinny. It's not the models fault she doesn't fall into your idea of what is beautiful. People who were flat could do it back then too.

-facepalm- I think you're incapable of understanding anything I said.
"How dare you try to say this woman can't do it simply because you want her to pack on some weight"
Holy shit. How many times did I say she's a beautiful woman? How many times did I say there is NOTHING WRONG with her body!!! It's just NOT RIGHT for the photoshoot.
If you read my god damn comment and stop skimming through it, I say that I am trying to help their art be more realistic. It's a critique.
And no i'm not resorting to name calling, I'm just saying what is on my mind; And what is on my mind is that you're completely over-sensitive and if you can't handle someone making a critique don't read it.

Let me copy and paste what I said and maybe you can read it!
"I didn't say "omfg she's a skinny whore get her out and bring in some chubbeh love" NO. I did not say "omg ur fat lose some weight GOSH" I said GET A DIFFERENT MODEL. She's pretty but not right!"
I am CLEARLY saying she is a beautiful woman! Just they need to either A: photoshop her differently or B: get a different model to achieve the retro look!

Also if you don't know anything about modeling "Keep the make-up artist and either pack on some layers to the girl"
Literally: Pack on layers of silicone or other material under clothes to create a different look.
That's not offensive, that is body modification. I have known models in my life and ALL of them have said at some point someone has either used duct-tape to make their tits invisible, or lots of padding to make 'em bigger. It's art, not a political "OH MY GOD LOSE WEIGHT GAIN WEIGHT EAT THIS EAT THAT" It's simply making your art the best you can make it.

I suggest watching some behind the scenes of movies or modeling. They all usually have some kind of make up, costume, or body modification.
Also, I am not overly upset. I just am trying to explain something to what feels like a brick wall and I'm rather pissed off at my life so I'm venting.

" I'm rather pissed off at my life so I'm venting." Well I'll go ahead and drop the conversation then, we both spoke our sides. I wish you could've been more respectful of my point of view at least instead of calling me a brick wall, or stupid. I hadn't once thought lowly of you in such ways, I was just disagreeing that they need a different model or to alter her. There really is nothing more for either of us to say, I agree to disagree. Hopefully whatever is bothering you will let up.

*shakes my head* Yeah I am sorry. I just got highly offended by "That's very rude of you, if she were bigger and someone told her to lose weight, they would get flamed." and "stop acting like you know everything about an era you didn't even exist in."
I didn't think I was being rude in my original comment, just giving a creative critique idea of what I personally thought. I also mentioned multiple times she was pretty so I didn't get why I was being rude...

And thank you, I have a bit of anger issues when it comes to some personal stuff and sometimes it just comes out on strangers. I do apologize.

Ah it's okay, I apologize too, those remarks do sound harsh reading them now. O_O It happens to anyone! Especially if something is stressing us beforehand. I have a few friends with anger problems, so I definitely get where you're coming from. I am glad you stood by your opinion! Take good care of yourself.

Agreed, why DD such a piece when there is a surplus of excellent sexy female-centred photography on the site?  I do think the model is naturally slim though, it's just the weird musculature and shaping that's been added.

I was reflecting my opinoin on the deviation itself, not on the fact that it got a DD. If you have a problem with the admin's choice, please read FAQ #873: What do I do when I disapprove of a Daily Deviation feature?

No need to get so defensive; it seems pointless if the quality of a piece is not tied to DD status.  My bad for not reading FAQ #873. :P
